SAFI NATIONAL CERAMICS MUSEUM
The Kechla citadel built by the Portuguese in the 16th century offers a spectacular view over the roofs of the medina which descend in a cascade to the Atlantic. However this is only one of its attractions since the Kechla also has on display the very finest pieces of the famous Safi pottery. With its engraved,
stamped, moulded and sculpted decoration and the subtle effects of
colours achieved by painting on the enamel, the extraordinary relief
effect which resulted was the pride of Safi. The pieces on display in
the museum are, of course, not for sale, but why not pay a visit to the
potter's quarter? Using a traditional potter's wheel, artisans and
artists shape, bake and paint vases, tajine dishes and tiles while you
watch. LOCATION National Ceramics
